Yes, the Disney board of directors has extended his contract until 2026, but the board also gave a vote of confidence to his predecessor, Bob Chapek, before cutting him off at the knees just five months later. But the hard truth, alas, is that Iger is not getting the job done at Disney, either.
He also wants the company to cut costs and avoid further botched decisions, citing management transitions and the overpayment for 21st Century Fox as examples. Does he have a point? Share prices speak for themselves in the investing world, and 2022 has been a bad year for Disney in that regard.
This is despite a moderate increase in price since the start of this year. According to Reuters sources, he has done very little of this so far. Peltz wants the level of influence he deems necessary to bring about change.

Who is Nelson Peltz, and why is he targeting Disney’s governance?
Disney has told investors that it would be disruptive if Peltz joined the board and that he would likely slow down decision making. Iger has personally visited major shareholders in recent weeks to urge their support, according to the Wall Street Journal, while Peltz and his partners — including his son, Matthew — have directly pitched investors, including on trips to Canada and the UK. Since Trian Group was initiated in 2005 by Peltz and company, they have remained vested in Heinz, but continued to grow their holdings through their alternative investment company, Trian Fund Management.
Before getting on the Board, Peltz was only an investor in the ketchup company, he had several disagreements with the management that was running the business. He constantly pressed the company to expand their advertising budget to build brand value and recognition in the eyes of the consumer. One of the first moves taken under his command was to reduce overhead costs. Overhead can make or break a company and is highly crucial; enough for owners and the management to keep a pulse on things on a daily basis.
This is not to say Heinz is a small company, but just to point out the fact that costs need to be monitored for every company. On a similar note, Peltz sent his employees to interview store managers and customers at retail chains and found that Heinz was pushing huge discounts to retailers in return for attractive retail space. In his eyes and as was subsequently proved, the problem was with the advertising Heinz was not undertaking. The advice fell on deaf ears until Peltz joined the Board.
From there on he convinced other Board members that brand loyalty would come only through marketing campaigns, as a result of which, customers would eventually be willing to pay a premium for the product. But Peltz also engages in short-term activist trades to unlock value. For example, this year Peltz has been pushing E.
Perhaps the relative quiet of the Cotswolds would be a welcome change for the second wedding, if it is to take place. Only time will tell.
